Hangflug - Locations Update

My long time project of building a reliable Slope Soaring Spot map with focus on alpine regions in middle and southern Europe – I call it "Slope Soaring Sweet Spots" – has come to a decent stage: there are now more than 300 entries (Update: more than 1000 to mid-May 2019) in this map!

Slope Soaring Sweet Spots

Well, you might think it is just another map ... I will give you some good reasons why it is something worth looking at:
I really tried hard to collect data from various sources, proofed them to plausibility, added information and brought it finally all together in one map. There you will find the most important information for each Soaring Spot – i.e. name, specific Slope info, fees & tolls, links to more info, elevation above sea level, useable wind or Slope direction, walk & car parking, precise position (coordinates) and web or publication sources if available. A unique feature are visual paths for walking access and meters in height to hike on site if the distance is more than just a few meters from car parking. Furthermore, the markers color scheme helps to differentiate categories:
  • red ... Spots from various sources
  • blue ... Spots listed in "FMT-EXTRA RC-Hangflug" Journals
  • dark yellow ... Hotels with Soaring Slopes right beside & commercially used Spots
  • yellow ... Hotels related to Slope Soaring
  • green ... Soaring Club Slopes
Built in a simple, easy to use Google Map you have another benefit: A three-dimensional representation of the map in Google Earth is possible as follows: Open the map and download KMZ / KML file with the export function (this function is hidden in a menu that opens when you click the three small dots). Open this file in Google Earth (of course, Google Earth must be installed on your device). Tip: if you select the corresponding option during export, the data will be automatically updated with new entries.

You know a Soaring Slope Spot in the mentioned regions that is not listed here, and you want to share it?
You have additional information like road/car, walking and cable car access, fees, wind and thermal characteristics, landing conditions, restrictions, etc.?
You found a mistake?
Don't hesitate - you are dearly welcome to make your contributions to this map!

NEW: Some Soaring Spots are described comprehensively in a separate post. Check out the new Slope Spots - en détail site!

More information to all of my sources and other maps you see at an extra site on this blog.
Keep in mind, that this map is a work in progress, the one or other change and extension will appear in the future. You are welcome to share the map, but notice the copyright policy.

Take note:
Even though the data in this map has been well-researched, some of them may be not correct. Important: this map provides only geographic information! Therefore, you must inform yourself of the legislation applicable at the place and the date when you go to a Slope to fly a model aircraft. Keep in mind that that people's safety is always more important than the pleasure of flying. Respect pastures and cultivated areas. Leave the flying Spots the way you found it, or better. Alpine regions are vulnerable places, therefore take extra care of animals and plants. Never leave garbage behind!
